Here’s an odd not really a blog, more a word of caution. I’ll return to data analysis next week (promise). Still, this week I ask you to watch a video for ten minutes.
Back in 2013 I wrote a blog entitled “Beware of Trolls”. This was about patent infringement and warned people who were interested in using our Open Source code about the possibility of patent infringement, and why Flight Data Services cannot be liable for possible patent infringement to anyone who uses our Open Source code.
At about the same time, Austin Meyer, the author of the X-Plane software which we use to visualise flight data, was sued by a patent troll for using the Google App Store. He has recently prepared a video in which explains the relationship between patents, judges, lawyers and the American legal system. I commend you to watch his video.
If you haven’t got 20 minutes to spare, skip ten minutes in the middle section (from 9 minutes to 19 minutes) where he knocks on doors of empty offices and jump to the explanation of why this law has not been amended.
